Fireworks in Geneva, Switzerland, 12 August 2017.
Fireworks explode overhead in hues of pink
And emotions surface like the bubbles in my glass
Of rosé champagne as last year ends and
The new one begins, causing me to sit and think
Of all those who have gone, and the ones that live,
Missing many who died in the full thrust of life,
And those who were old and ready to leave,
As well as those encountered who I struggle to forgive.
We owe it to loved ones lost to celebrate tonight
With hope, and to dream of future adventures near and far
As the bubbles and fireworks fizz with the rose-tinted
Effervescence of possibility and fill the dark sky with light.
The pretty rockets whoosh and bang, setting the night ablaze
As I focus on the Love that only comes from above
And look ahead, tentatively, grateful for healing,
Imagining discoveries and delights that will amaze.
There are bad habits to give up, and activities to renew,
Along with sadness to let go and risks which must be considered
But the sparks of brightness streaking through the sky
Help to treasure this blessed privilege to start anew.
What beautiful words, Armorel! I’m coming to this post late, but hope that 2024 is a wonderful year for you. x
